KotoR: Has this happened to anyone else?

I don't want to really comment on the game itself, except that after about one year of waiting for the game that it's live up to the hype from the magazines and surly does deserve all the awards it's got. Simply an amazing game...

Anyhow before you all start to wonder where I was for this last year let me explain...

When the game first came out I bought it within a week of release… After rushing home to play it I wait for it to load and to watch the opening movie. (Something I always seem to do the first time I play a game.) Anyhow the opening movie was choppy and I lucky to see or hear 3 seconds of it before it would cut out for another 30 seconds...

Since my xbox had played, and would play, the other 30 games I took it back to the place I bought it and exchanged it for a new disk. (This was really nice of them as my copy of the game played just fine in their store demo system.) I run home figured my problems where fixed only to discover that once again the opening movie was choppy, and maybe more so than on the original disk…

I tried cleaning the xbox, I contacted Lucas Arts, who was less than helpful, and so with little hope for a fix I took the game back and was able to get store credit. I bought Madden 2004 and everything ran just fine with it so I soon forgot the whole ordeal.

Advance to last Wednesday, Best Buy is running a sale where the greatest hits version of KotoR is 14.95. I quickly decide that even if the game doesn’t work and I have to wait for the chance to upgrade to a new xbox, aka xbox 2 or what ever it’s called, I decide that its worth the risk and I buy the game.

Now when I inserted the greatest hits version of the game into my xbox I didn’t really know what to think but every issue that my xbox had with the previous game has gone away completely. (Spoiler:
I’m on the last world, having just escaped the Sith and also learning my character’s dark history.
)

So after 30+ hours of game play I can luckily say that everything is for the better now but has this happened to anyone else before?

Well, something similar happened with my brother's copy. But with him being a self-taught technology nut, he opened up the console, found some faulty wiring that had been just barely held in place, fixed that, called up microsoft, made himself heard, and got nothing but the satisfaction of screaming at a few people who work for the blood-sucking corporation.

I prefer to wait 'till the PC version for anything comes out, since my PC outperforms all the consoles, except for MAYBE the GameCube. Plus you get extra features and all that. Like an additional space station where I was able to buy an awesome body shield with unlimited charges for HK-47. :D

Err... using any reasonable definition of "outperform", it's impossible to have a system that outperforms an Xbox and doesn't outperform an GameCube; the Xbox is the highest-spec current-generation console by a large margin (most powerful CPU, most powerful GPU, best audio, most memory, etc.). It's true that Nintendo's GameCube exclusives are the least likely to ever show up on another system (and if the games you like are either Cube exclusive or tend to get PC ports, then you might very well want to just have a Cube and a PC), but that's not the same thing.

The additional location from the PC version can be grabbed from Xbox Live!, I understand.

My version has always been really choppy during most CGI scenes and some loads are chopped as well but my Xbox has been on the fritz for a while so I really paid it no mind.
