KotS: Adaptation for three players

Sure. Swap him out for a kobold dragonshield with the savage berserker template. These are the resulting stats:

...See above...

Not quite as tough as Irontooth, doesn't have his massive regeneration when bloodied, or his amount of hitpoints, or his damage output, but still certainly a cut above the regular kobolds.

Thanks I am going to use that. My players are a Ranger, a Fighter , and a WarLock !! Two Strikers and a Defender do not an even party make. I think I am going to have the guy they help at the dig site, join the party as a warlord.

Adding an NPC fighter meatshield could work nicely.

Use the "building an NPC" rules. Basically, he gets ability scores, an AC, and 1 at will, encounter, and daily power. He'll suck 100 XP per encounter while he's level 1. Either reduce the treasure IAW the DMG guidelines, or have the NPC suck off a half share to full share.

The NPCs are easy to run due to their limited supply of powers but good enough at filling out a small party.

Im in this exact same situation.
I have a handful of people interested, but highly doubt Ill get more than 3 going at a time.
Im notorious for playing thieves/rogues in any type of game, video, roleplaying , etc.
So most people dont even play that.
I plan to take the char I wanted to be if I were a player and stick em in as an npc.
And just like me, hes fickle and cannot always be counted on. Steal some of the loot occasionally. Prolly have them meet him skulking outside or so.
And besides that maybe alternating the fights for 4 and 5 chars, to give em a chance for difficulty.
Might even have the Rogue claim hes on other business and drop in on every other fight "coincidentally". Ahh, have em find an item, he jacks it, and everyone is happy.
I think its coming together now.
