KoTS Creepiness (Spoilers)

Scribble

First Post
So in KoTS it mentions playing up the "creepy" in the keep... So I've taken that to my evil DM heart. :D

The first couple encounters players didn't notice anything... but then afterwards when things calmed down, and they started to get a bearing on where they were...

Told them the place has a weird "vibe" to it... Like the light seems dimemr then it should. Sound is also dampened... Like speaking in a heavily padded room, or from further away... Nothing that has any serious effect, but unsettling. It's chilly in the place as well..

Later on, I described odd noises coming from behind them, little glimpses of shadow just on the edge of their torchlight... (The wizard has been casting light like a fiend...)

One of them is also positive he heard some calling his name from somewhere behidn them...

They've sept in the place once. it resulted in very bad dreams for most of them, and they're donw a healing surge because of it... They couldn't remember the dreams, but if they sleep again, I'm going to describe a bit of Sir Keagan's story.. and maybe give them a glimpse of the ritual taking place below them...

I plan some other stuff too, like hearing themselves on the other side of the doorway...

Also if they sleep again, I might have them get "attacked" only to have them realize (once the guy on watch wakes them all up) tha there;s nothing there...

Any other ideas people have or are doing?

Sinister soundtracks

I nominate Diablo 1 theme music. Throw in some terrain features: blood oozing from the stones when players come near, torches burning with no fuel, in eerie colours. Heroes of Horror has other ideas.

*Snag*

*Yoink*

and other such sounds to illustrate the fact that I'm just rolling a 20 on my Thievery skill check for this thread!

We just started KOTS Saturday and played again last night. The group is already asking how soon we can play again. :D

[sblock=Spoilers]They made it to Winterhaven after beating the first kobolds on the road and took the job from Lord Padraig to wipe out the Kobolds infesting the area. They had a rough fight with the ambush after leaving town, but kicked arse in the area just outside the kobold caves. Since they hit that milestone of 2 fights in one day, they all are getting back their Action points that they spent and might have a hope against the critters and Irontooth inside. We'll see what their plan is for entering the caves. At least they managed to stop any of the outside kobolds from getting inside to warn the others. So at least they'll have 3 rounds to deal with the horde of minions before Irontooth and the other big hitters arrive.[/sblock]

Turn Area 17: Ghoul Warren into an encounter with the zombies of Sir Keegan's slain comrades. The knights and the families of the keep.

I like that one... I'm really trying to play up the whole guy went psycho and slaughtered innocents theme...

Children crying... calling out daddy no! and such...

Kind of want to maybe put togetehr a first person point of view yet still slightly confusing dream sequence, where the characters play the part of Sir Keagen...

Consideration was given to write it that way but killing zombies of murdered children was a bit too gritty so we made them generic zombies.

Yeah... I can understand. Especially given D&Ds history...

D&D is about killing babies?!?!
