KotS Play Question: Paladins

How did the Paladin play? What's wrong with it? What powers did you use most, what powers did you like most, what did you not use?

Also, is there an official answer on using Divine Strength to boost your breath weapon's damage?

Thanks, -- N

Playing KotS this wknd, but my problem looking at the Pally is the stat selection more than anything else. 2 points in Con instead of somewhere else would have netted 3 more HP and 2 more points on each healing surge. (27 rounds down to 6, 29 rounds to 7+1con bonus)

Thats the 'standard array' again. It wastes 3 points bumping the 5th and 6th stats that you don't actually care about. Not having the 10 and 11 would allow you to have a 14 Con.
I'd suggest switching all the characters to a 16/14/14/13/10/8 array, if not letting the players build them from the ground up with the point buy scheme. They'd be much more effective.

I would have been fine w/using the 14 in strength (becomes a 16) and putting the 16 somewhere else like Charisma, and go from there.

Bolstering Strike would have been a better call than Valiant Strike IMO. Radiant Smite is fine altho Shielding Smite is cool too, and maybe the right call in a Charisma heavy build. Paladin's Judgement is great, esp for the extra healing potential. Maybe I would build mine as

S 14 +2
D 10 -
C 14 +2
I 11 -
W 13 +1
C 18 +4

First stat bump into Wisdom to make it a +2, better HP, healing surge amount , plus healing surge usages. Maybe even make the 11 Int a 10 and add 1 more into your Con since you need 2 more points to raise the 13 Wis to a 14. Lower strength than originally targeted, but I think with the variety of stats you get potential bonuses off of with powers, it could be a good thing. This is probably a more defensive and healing minded Pally than a storm the gates kind, but it can still function for eitehr purpose.

I wouldn't have strength on a paladin at all. It could go all cha/wis/dex/con.

You don't want 13 wis as you only get one lay on hands a day.

I made halfling paladin with 19 cha, 17 wis, 14 dex, 13 con, 10 int, 8 str. None of the powers are str based, all are cha/wis based. Guess where the stat gains at level 4 goes! ;)

Strength? :) I assume the powers they chose for the Pally they had a higher strength b/c they built a Pally who was more straight up combat. Every attack power they chose for the Pally is based on Strength vs AC. I think it's more useful to focus on the other stats, altho I dunno if I would make Str the stat dump and drop an 8 in there.

To be fair the KotS paladin was made with 22 point buy, whereas yours certainly wasn't ! Rolled stats ?

With 22 point buy I was thinking along the lines of 10 str, 12 con, 14 dex, 8 int, 16 wis, 18 cha for a halfling paladin (including racial mods, obviously). Not having con at 14 makes me cry, but wis seems pretty important, and spending 2 points on dex seems worthwhile for armour (scale, for faster movement) or shield specialisation later on... they both grant feat bonuses to AC, so seemingly don't stack with each other.
