@Neurotic's research checks... Rigantona (religion), gates (planes), well (??) -> local Neurotic Request: [3 1d20+4 knowledge with included bonus, no skill] Rolls: [8] Result: 12 (religion) [14] Result: 18 (the planes) [1] Result: 5 (local) (critical failure) - 10 = -5 Knowledge (religion) -> 12 + 13 = 25
The fey goddess known as Rigantona is better known in Bluffside as Rhiannon. She is often called the Faerie Queen by her followers, which are almost always fey creatures or female druids and rangers. While Rigantona is not considered one of the High Fey (aka the Seelie), she is an important fey goddess of the Mystic Glades (aka the Plane of Faerie). [In game terms, she is a true neutral, intermediate Goddess of Nature. Her clerics can be of any neutral alignment.] Her realm is called The Queen's Court and she often hosts the High Fey during their constant wandering of the Mystic Glades. While the Low Fey (the unseelie) aren't banned from her realm, they rarely visit her realm. Relations between Rigantona and Titania are cordial. Neutral fey deities tend to follow Rigantona's lead when it comes to the politicking of the Fey Ones. This is especially true of the Rhode, the Fey Goddess of Waves and Wives, and Saint Hurbert, a demigod known as The Hunter and The White Stag. While Rigantona isn't as powerful as Titania, she is greatly respected by mortals for her more neutral stance when it comes to balancing between nature and civilization. Long ago, before Bluffside was Bluffside, her faith dominated much of the coastline in the region. There are lost shrines to her in the forests and mountains surrounding the Valley of Sem La Vah. Worship of Titania is stronger in the Coldwind Forest and the wilder Aarzan Valley. (The elves of Ravensilath honour both goddesses.) Basically, the two goddesses are like friendly rivals.
Knowledge (the planes) -> 18 + 14 = 32
More than likely, The Faerie Queen brought Sobla and Mutt to the Shadowstar Sea instead of the Mystic Glades because it was easier for her to do so. Also, the Mystic Glades aren't meant for non-fey. As an intermediate goddess, it would have been easy for Rigantona to bring them through Her portal, the well. As noted below, Akos could not find any information on the well in the Teacher's Library. It is almost as if someone has removed any details about the well's existence in Jade Thicket from the temple's library. During his research, Akos discovers a huge 'hole' in the information regarding planar gates or magical travel to and from Bluffside. There are pages torn out of books and several major references are just... gone. It is obviously the work of Phelix or one of his agents. The head archivist, Pennant Hassenforth, becomes livid when Akos brings the thefts to his attention. He had security in the temple heightened after the first time the Loyalists broke in and stole books (*), and he is completely distraught to learn that they are still getting in and out without setting off the magical alarms or being seen by the library's archivists (or other staff). He begs for Akos's help to find out how they are getting in and out. Or, to help him strengthen the magical alarms and wards protecting the temple. * This happened before the original PCs found out Phelix was a villain. It was when he went by Felix Yoxall and was working, secretly, at The Winsome Heart in New City. He was exposed, tried to burn down the inn, and his allies caused the New City Disaster (a huge explosion). Because of what happened in New City, the original thefts were 'put on the backburner', so to speak, by the first group of PCs, but not by the head archivist himself.
Knowledge (local) -> -5 + 11 = 6 Akos cannot find anything about the well in the temple's library.
