As I watched the trailer, one thought went consistently through my mind...

What the hell is going on?
My first experience with Hong Kong cinema was in 1992. I was living in Japan and had exhausted the English-language section of the local video store. And the French, Italian, Spanish...

So I started watching Chinese movies. No English subtitles, and HK movies from that period all share one particular characteristic -- a truly unbelievable amount of crap simply HAPPENS in every film. They're all 90-minute films that take three hours to describe, simply because there's so much crap going on ALL THE TIME.

And trying to watch that in Cantonese with less-than-entirely-helpful Japanese subtitles resulted in a lot of

"What the hell is going on?"

On the part of my wife and I.

:D

The trailer for Kung-fu Hustle played before Ong-Bak when we went to see it last night. I came back into the theatre from getting drinks half way through and got to my seat trying to juggle drinks and watch the screne at the same time. This looks awsome. Does anyone have a NA release date?

The One would have been much better if Stephen Chow had directed it, I'm sure.

When you're making a stupid movie, don't try to pretend you're making a serious movie.

That's a tip, kids. Write it down.

It did look pretty funny. But on the serious movie front; just saw a trailer for Unleashed today too. That looks like it'll have some sweet chop-socky action.
