Kung Fu Hustle

See, I'm starting to cool off towards Chow.

I was pretty excited about Kung-Fu Hustle after seeing the trailer. I enjoyed Shaolin Soccer though I wouldn't see it again, and Forbidden City Cop had some very funny moments though I wouldn't see it again, and From Beijing With Love was just bad (and I wouldn't see it again).

And I don't think I'd see Kung-Fu Hustle again, either.

Chow's just a little too smug. There doesn't seem to be much heart to any of his films. They're just kind of mean-spirited.

Not sure what it is. But Kung-Fu Hustle wasn't as good as Shaolin Soccer, I thought. And neither of them were great.

Part of it is that his stories don't feel sufficiently madcap. There seems to be a lot of "waiting for the next funny bit" while I'm watching them. If I WAS going to watch one again, I think I'd fast-forward through all the not-funny bits.

That said, when they're funny, they're awful darn funny.
