L4W Discussion Thread IV

Hi Guys!

I wanted to ask if someone could approve Atreus. I submitted him a long time ago but still hasn't been approved. I know you guys are busy but I really would appreciate it if you could find the time. Thanks :)

Please see my comments at the bottom. They still don't look to be fully addressed. If you reply to the e-mail I sent you & cc'd the judges account on then I am aware that you addressed them and the other judges are as well. In our records it would read something like "comments sent to Atriden, no response" so nobody else would look at him.

I don't mind to be a part-time character reviewer as well.

Is there a list of characters that still need to be reviewed? I am fairly certain that the L4W:Requesting Approval page is not a good list, since anyone who has just started their character and not necessarily requested approval will appear there (since the link is in the sample character page that everyone copies), and since there are 87 characters in that list it would be difficult to cross-reference each one to make sure that if they have been checked, it was by a judge and not another non-judge checker. Plus, given the length of the list, I have to imagine some folks are probably there erroneously for other reasons.

Ultimately the most useful list would be one that contains only characters who have contacted the judges and who have been approved by either zero people or one judge. (If it also included the date of the original request, so as to give a preference for order, that would be even better.) These are the only characters that non-judge character-checkers can examine, correct? (Also I'm assuming this list would contain both "original character" requests and "level up" requests, right?) I guess then character checkers could "claim" a PC (so we wouldn't all do double-work at the same time) and then set about checking them?

I apologize if such a list exists and I haven't found it or it has been posted and I haven't seen it (or if all of this is explained somewhere and I haven't found it), but can one of the judges assist with this? Or have the judges just been emailing/PMing folks?

Additionally, once a character is checked, I'm guessing the checker should then ...send an email and cc the judges? Is that the correct thing to do? Or is this again something that is explained somewhere?

If a character has been checked and changes need to be made, the player should mail the judges to let them know that the issues have been addressed. It's probably worth mentioning again (what with new peeps volunteering to be checkers) that one of the two checks a character has still needs to be from a full judge before they are considered approved.

On a separate note: Is there any news on a third party site to host the wiki?

I have a question. I'm thinking ahead to when Ts'iri gets to 6th level and I'm wondering if it's ok to swap out backgrounds when I level up? EA Region just isn't doing it for me and dozens of other backgrounds fit her just fine.

I seem to remember that way back when we originally started talking about backgrounds, there was a thought that you'd be able to switch backgrounds by learning a lot about your new background, in character. There was a suggestion that there would be particular NPCs who were emblematic of a particular background, and if you wanted to switch to that background, you could find a way in character to spend some time with that NPC and roleplay how you were coming to revere their culture and how you were learning so much from them, and all that. Can't remember if there was talk of a fee or not; maybe?

Or, maybe all of this was just in my head. Bottom line; to me a character's background is mostly an RP tool, and should be handled in an RP manner if at all possible.

On the other hand, neither of my characters have backgrounds, since at the time of creation I wasn't very interested in any of the ones available, and never got around to coming up with ones I was interested in.

Wasn't there some discussion when the PHB2 backgrounds were adopted of allowing people with the old style background an opportunity to switch them if they wished? That thread may already have the answer.
