LA for a bullywug?

Since the character cannot effectively multiclass as a spellcaster, gets a terrible Will save, takes a hit on numerous skills, and will have very few Skill Ranks, I think +1 LA sounds appropriate. I would much rather be a Hobgoblin, with two stat bonuses and no penalties and Darkvision and skill bonuses, than a Bullywug, natural armor or no.

does the LA sound better at +1 or +2?

Much, much better at +1.

• The +6 Con bonus is completely offset by the -4 penalties to Int, Wis, and Cha.
• Savage Species recommends not giving Swim speeds an LA, unless you're running a pirate or underwater campaign, and I can get behind that.
• With similar logic, I don't think the marsh move ability warrants an LA.
• Ditto with their racial bonus to Hide checks, which only apply when in marshes.
• Even adding these last three together doesn't add up to a single +1 bonus.
• This leaves the natural armor bonus, which by the SS guidelines would be LA +1.

Grand total: LA +1. But looking at the whole package, the bullywug still seems pretty lame next to the standard PC races. I think the 20 ft land speed probably offsets the +3 natural armor bonus. So unless we're talking about an Okefenokee campaign, I would even consider giving them an LA of +0.

I don't have the bullywug in front of me, but unless you are always in teh enviornment that it gets it's bonus' in then it doesn't count toward LA addition.

IE: Unless you are in the swamp for the campaign then it doesn't count.

Now isn't the bullywug small creature?

I am leaning with the evidence at hand toward making it a +0

I'd be leery of making them +0 LA, just because they have abilities outside the realm of normal humanoid abilities. They may be dumb, but they would make a helluva Rogue/Barbarian, and they have natural armor.

No, the bullywugs are Medium. As are the Sivs.

Creature Collection Two's "slime reaver" are Small, however.

And, for my money, they make much better bullywugs than the WotC bullywugs.

Bullywugs have to be able to jump!
