Lack of Female Dwarf Art

I don't subscribe to that idea. Great for a bit of humor in LotR, but I prefer dwarf women without beards. Maybe a little cheek fuzz, though. ;)

Kinda like Chaz Bono. As a matter of fact, just do a google search and the images should be fine (although without armor or a weapon).

I'd suggest trying a Google Images search for dragon age female dwarf. The female dwarves in the Dragon Age games are beardless, and tend to look as warrior-like as their male counterparts, and the graphical quality is good enough for character art, if you don't mind using screen caps.

Thanks. That produced a few more usable results.

Another reason for the divide in art may also be from various TSR/WotC flavor text over the years.

1) The dwarves with beards for 1eAD&D
2) The 3:1 ratio of male to female dwaven births mean more male adventurers (can't remember but I believe it was 2eAD&D may have been a Roger E. Moore Dragon article - "The Dwarven Point of View")
3) Most dwarven literature figures are male
4) Most females are honor bound to their clan and therefore stay at home to create more dwarves (that was in 2e, I just don't remember where)

In the old Thieves Guild series from Gamelords there was, if I recall properly, an adventure where the PCs escort a dwarf questing for (dun dun da!) bearded dwarfen women!

As it happens, the lands that have bearded female dwarfs are just as interested to find that there are places with (dun dun da!) beardless dwarfen women!

Oddly enough, the two dwarfen lands interact peacefully, it is the trip that is dangerous, not the destination....

Dragonhelm,
one good source could be various 3rd party 3E era setting books. They often have illustrations of all races with members of both sexes.

Good point. I'll have to start looking through my collection.

Here's one I found on Deviant Art that matches my mental picture fairly well. It's a pencil drawing, so no color to it, but it's close.
