Lack of Female GM's

It is important to remember that few players actually ever see what we'd be able to call a statistically relevant sample of GMs. What you're actually going to see is apt to be more dependent upon the social circle(s) in question than how many female gamers there are in general.

Well noted. I've played with female GMs, but not in recent years since my gaming group is deliberately a Man's Day sort of thing.

Well, FWIW, our current group of ten roleplayers includes two female players. One of them is also the GM in one of our regular game sessions (not D&D). She also wrote her master's thesis about roleplaying games, so you can tell she's pretty engaged!

I don't think this is in any way representative, though.

Back in the days when I was still member of a roleplaying club of the ~ 50 members maybe 10 percent were females. I don't think any of them ever was a GM. When the club changed it's focus to concentrate on LARPing, the percentage of female members increased considerably. But that's a (slightly) different topic...
