Landscape handouts

I'm interested in handing out pictures of landscapes to my players to show them what the terrain looks like when they are travelling. I think 3d images would work better than using real photographs.

What's the name of those programs that people use to create 3d landscapes really easy? Ya know, the ones with that darn water graphic that I see used in picture after picture?

Does anyone know of any websites that has those type of pictures already posted? I run a Planescape game, so the pictures I want to show need to be a little more unique than typical landscape photographs.

A quick google image search for "3d landscape" should turn some nice stuff up. Bryce is one program that people use to build landscapes. I think they're up to version 5.0 by now. There are a couple of pretty decent free landscape generators out there as well, I don't have any links to provide, however.

I have heard good things about Terragen , however I have not used it myself.

Ah, thank you! Terragen is the one I was thinking of. It's pretty nice. It's possible to get decent images out of it pretty quickly, but there's a lot of power there if you want to get into it.
