Large Map: Getting It Printed

Vampyrknight

First Post
Recently, while doing a map in Campaign Cartographer, it hit me I wanted a large map of the continent (the campaign world to date only contains one continent). I tried a search online but didn't know what to search for. Anyone know of any online print companies or what to type into a search engine? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You may want to take this to the CC2 mail list for better response but check you local printers/sign companies if it is that big, I think the max Kinko's will print 14x17.

Now f you are doing the printing I think you have the option to print it by sections.

Kinkos can print much larger than that, but it'll cost $10-15/sq foot. You can also find internet based companies that will ship the print to you. Many of them will be cheaper than kinkos, because they do a lot of large printing. Expect the cheapest you find to be around $6/sq ft. (on glossy).

If you just want 14x17 or so, FedEx/Kinkos and the UPS store can probably do that for a reasonable cost. They can laminate too, if you want that.

Try a google search for "large format printing", and don't be afraid to look at the sponsored advertising. You're looking for a paid service, after all.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think our local Kinko's also had an engineering plotter available. One of my buddies used it to make a ginormous Car Wars map for the local con.* He said it could do about 3 feet by however long you wanted it. I'm not sure if it's available in color or how much that would cost, though.

*--Tons of fun. He used the parking map for the university and basically had a free-for-all shoot 'em up. We were all over the place. Parking lot. Quad. Sidewalks. Bonus points for blowing up campus artwork.

Thanks for the Help

I'll certainly check the yellow pages and search online. And what I'm looking for is something like a 24 inch by 36 inch poster, something along those lines, and in color. It'll make the players really stand up and take notice.

Kinko's does in fact have a printer that will do 3' by whatever in my area. I also heard a trick from the guys at Dundjinni's booth at Gencon. You can get some things printed on vinyl at kinko's. It is cheaper (according to the dundjinni rep who did have a sample with him) and it can get wet and not be ruined.

You might pay for a big map in color at Kinko's but I think it would be worth it.

I work for a pre-press graphics company and we have a HP plotter than can print 54 inches by 80+ inches ... might I suggest checking with specialized graphic places around you? Mayhaps find a college that has a graphic design and corrugated department, where some students might need practice printing plotters and see about getting it for free, lol.
