Large Scale Combat in D&D

Ok, the guy that was supposed to be running a game tonight bailed out on us, so I'm gonna run a simple (in concept) one-shot campaign.

What I'm wanting to to is reinact the Final Battle in-which the King of Cormyr was killed, w/ the Dragon and horde of goblins. I'm gonna have the PC's helping defend the city.

Is there any formula that ya'll have devised to handle combat on the MASSIVE scale? I ain't got any cash to buy the suplement book that covers this topic, so I'm hoping for a decent house rule solution.

Mass Combat system

WOW!!! That is impressive! I like the concept of the mass combat system, I think it's good. If I run a campaign, there's a very good chance that I will employ these rules. And the program makes running a series of battles even easier. Well done!
