I used to go to PORTAL and it was pretty kewl, if you're into that kind of stuff. Alas, it's closed now.

I knew some of the guys in that video and I GMed some of the founding members of that LARP (the "giants" in particular). Avid D&D players all of them and easily the best role-players I've ever seen (LARP or table top). Also, We're proud to be called Nerds.

LARP's like that are certainly still around.

For example, I am an avid player of NERO (www.nerolarp.com), and they've got over 50 games spread throughout the US and Canada, all being part of one shared world. It's quite fun (and the game looks quite similar to that video, without of course the special effects edited in for spells).

That is one of the ones I used to play.
