With some publishers submitting multiple works, how in the world are the judges going to be able to read through and compare the dozens of books they've got? Seems like a hefty job, have y'all considered moving the submission deadline back for next year?

EDIT: I'm not criticizing, I'm sympathizing. :)

Good reading!

Pacing oneself is essential, I think. For me, I try to read at least two books a day, possibly more, depending on the length. Plus, there are cases where I've already read some of the entries over the past year. Anyway, it's tough, but doable. You'll notice that most of the judges will rarely show up on the message boards during the next month or so. I happen to be the main contact for the publishers here in North America, so I've had an advantage over the other judges in that I've been able to see all the material earlier than they have.

My plan (same as last year) is the exact opposite of the Colonel's.

I've taken some time off work to dedicate 8/hours a day to reading, digesting and summarizing each of the items.

It's still a hell of a load of work, but we knew it would be when we volunteered. I think it behooves us to make certain that every single item is given fair shake. If someone took the time to write the thing and enter it in the contest, I can spare 10 days to make damnsure it gets it's day in court ;)

The first third of the stuff has arrived at my door already and I have to say that so far the quality is largely breathtaking.

I can't believe I chose to use the word "Behooves".

I think we should get GenCon Guest of Honour Tracy Lords to be a presenter. The Colonel suggested this is jest...

I , however, am dead serious.

I have been borrowing and gathering the books that I own of the ones that are too be submitted. So, I've been reading the ones I can to help with when the big batch of them gets here. So, even before I actually got the first shipment of books I'd been slowly reading through many of the entries. And luckily, there are many that I had read before, so that makes the second reading of the product go that much faster. I should get everything I have read before the next shipment comes, that's when it will get tough. :D

TB's method of getting through all the books would likely do me in. I think his CON score is higher than mine by at least 3 points or so :)

Traci Lords as a presenter would be quite a stunt. I mean, she's gonna be at GenCon anyway...

Ummm...Morrus? Where is PCGen? I got a reply from you saying that you received our submission.

Is the name of the publisher PCGen, or the product? I was under the impression in was produced by Code Monkey Publishing these days, but I must admit that I don't follow these things very closely.

PCGen is both the product and the group. PCGen is an Open Source project. CMP is a company that has gained the rights to patch eTools and create data sets for both eTools and PCGen. Two separate entities, although there is overlap in the people that are working on both.
