anybody out there have their players draw up wills or some such, so they know their supercool wand or keen blade goes to the right person if they die?

i mean, usually when someone dies (a p.c.) the party just splits up their stuff, with o regard fopr the wishes of the dead p.c.....any other cool ways of dealing with this?

Sounds to me like someone's hearkening back to the days of the first edition character sheets... ;)

Seriously, anyone else remember those? The ones that were class-specific, and actually had space marked and set aside as last will and testament?

I was in middle school during most of my first edition days, of course, so most of my goods went to other PCs of mine... :D

To answer the question, no, we've never done this in character. But honestly, I'm not entirely sure how common such a thing would likely be. I don't think anyone but the nobility tended to bother with wills in medieval society, and I'm not sure I see why most would bother. Unless I'm an adventurer in a party where some of us don't get along, I think my wish for my goods and equipment--unless I had specific goals I was working toward--would be for my companions to make whatever use of them they could that would save their lives.

Typically, if a PC dies and will not (or cannot) be raised or resurrected, his equipment is sold and the money given to his family or next of kin. It's an easy solution and it solves alot of problems that can crop up from a permanant PC death.
