Late 19th Century Paranormal History

I'll give them a look. Glad to know a familiar face was working on them. :D

All I did was design the look and handle the layout on the books. (I think I also suggested a couple of ideas for annotations but it's been several years and I can't remember the specifics -- I just remember they were fun to work on.) I also did the cover for the second book.

I'm not sure if Holmes was exactly "paranormal". But it is a very interesting case.

True. But then, the fact that most of the people who were responsible for his death died prematurely, sometimes in rather horrific ways--that's odd.

But basically, if you're willing to take the "ab" with the "para", Holmes would be a perfect fit in almost any late 1800s campaign

Charles Fort (from whose name the term "Fortean" comes) wrote books cataloguing all manner of stuff like you're asking about. There are some very good collections of those books available. Check Amazon. They're worth getting.

Also might wanna check out Fortean Times, a monthly magazine dedicated to Fort and the idea that the unusual is so usual. It's chock full of ideas and inspiration. Its a british magazine, but you can order it through Previews (comic/specialty shop orderbook.)

Spring-Heeled Jack was active at this time in London.
The Devil's Footprints also "appeared" at this time.
Jack the Ripper was active.
In India, the Thugee cult was being exterminated.
In America, Spiritualism/the Seance Movement was going strong.
Harry Houdini was beginning his rise in fame.
Helena Blavatsky, a big-time Spiritualist, was beginning her rise in fame and power. She's a very interesting and obnoxious sort. Good for RPGing.
