That you don't like the new name - ok, I get that. (Mind you, I think it's likely to better describe the contents than Maelstrom. Sort of).

I don't see the mistake. No cover. Was the product supposed to be called Maelstrom, but someone on the webteam's messed up, or... I'm confuzzled.

Not that Stormwreck is a bad name, but are they short of ideas at WotC? Sandstorm, stormwreck... Why not froststorm the first one then? I think the idea behind the titles was to evoke hazards of the books' environment, and maybe Maelstrom is too exotic for average gamers to know (pffft...), but it's not always storms everywhere. I'd have preferred even Whirlpool or simply Shipwreck.

Sod the cover - that doesn't bother me... but Stormwrack... where did that come from. We have Fostburn and Sandstorm - both really evocative and with RL meanings that give a real feel for the reader. Maelstrom has the same feeling, the same RW conotations, the same danger.... Stormwrack... meh!

"Wrack" is from the middle dutch for "shipwreck".

Thus, "Stormwrack" - something destroyed by a storm; or possibly the storm that destroys.

Errr... what's the problem with the cover?

The problem with the cover is that they'll have a huge typo on it. It'll have "Stormwrack" on it, and everyone knows it's how "Maelstrom" is supposed to be spelt.

I can't understand why they feel the need to dumb down titles.

Or have they decided to play cadavre exquis and they couldn't decently name their next environment book "Strom Thurmond" (go on, find something else beginning by "Strom") ? In that case, why haven't they renamed "Sandstorm" to become "Burnstorm" as well?

Maelstrom - Mealstorm

I think that customers are far more likely to think that "Stormwrack" is spelled correctly, than "Maelstrom".

"Huh... whats a 'mael'... and shouldn't it be 'storm'? It must be wrong!"



I like Stormwrack. "Storm" as in.. ummm.. "storm" and "wrack" as in "destruction or ruin". Perfect fit!

Unless the book is only about maelstroms, of course...

According to Greyman over on WotC forum, a storm wrack is the debris that washes up after a maelstrom. Stormwrack isn't a word, same way Frostburn isn't.

The question is. What is Wizards thinking? That somehow everyone is too dumb to know what a maelstrom is and yet smart enough to know what the combined words Stormwrack is suppose to mean?

It surely couldn't be to make it fit the series, after all they did come up with Lords of Madness.
