League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Hey all. I know this has been done before but I am tempted to run a d20 modern game based off of the graphic novels (and not the awful movie). I was trying to think of characters that might play a role. I had some trouble but knew that these forums would have tons of ideas :)

I am looking at these eras as options:

-1930's
-Modern day

Who might be present? Any pitfalls to using d20 modern?

A lot of great 1930's literature, but I dont know if they make great adventure characters. Throw in some comics and movies and I can start a list.
Sam Spade
Jay Gatsby
Miss Marple
The Thin Man
Charlie Chan
The Shadow
Doc Savage
Rick Blaine (Casablanca)
Charles Foster Kane
Indiana Jones
The Rocketeer
Beau Geste (from the 1920's I believe)
Sky Captain
Johnny Hooker (Redford conman in The Sting)
Roy Hobbs (The Natural)
Oliver Warbucks and Punjab (Anne) (Or Anne if you could stomach that:p)
Doctor Zhivago
Sing (Stephen Chow in Kung-Fu Hustle)
Rick O'Connell (The Mummy)

That should be a start

For the 1930s I believe what you want is Thrilling Tales from Adamant, either the Omnibus or pic a choose from the other products in the line. Its d20 Modern based so you should have no problems with it. Most of the characters mentioned above can easilly be created with it.

I've lent out my LoEG graphic novels years ago, only to never see them again, but I was intrigued by the Alternate History Narrative at the end of each novel. Pages of ideas to run a Victorian D20 Alternate Past/Future campaign. Really well done. If you do run a campaign based on this, please put up a story in the Story Hour lounge as I would like very much to read it.

I was toying with a League of Extraordinary Children campaign with various characters from literature... never got off the ground. Definitely keep us posted on progress!

If you're going to modern characters, you almost have to go to the movies, TV, or the Bestseller list:

- Officer John McClane
- Sarah Connor
- One of John Grisham's lawyers
- One of Patricia Cornwell's doctor/forensic specialists
- Agent Jack Bauer
- Chuck Bartowski (Chuck on NBC)
- One of the guys from Supernatural or that other weird CW show...dude that made a deal with the devil...

Anyway... that's my contribution.

The most important thing to remember is that LoeG wasn't a collection of heroes from the 1890s.

It was a collection of Monsters from the 1890s.

How about this lineup:

-Hannibal Lector
-T-800 series Terminator (That's the Arnold Schwartzennegar version)
-Wolverine
-Draco Malfoy (HP cannonically took place in the 90s, so he'd be in his late twenties)
-M (Judi Dench version)

That's a nice combination that ranges from "morally grey" to "violently insane" and from "normal human" to "indestructable superpowered killing machine"
