Left Behind: The Rapture

I'm curious. Would anyone be interested in playing in a d20 Modern or a regular high-medieval D&D PbP campaign here on EN World modeled after the Tim LaHaye/Jerry Jenkins christian fiction series Left Behind?

From the official Left Behind website, here's a quote intended to give readers a jist of where a campaign could conceivably begin:
Left Behind website said:
Passengers aboard a Boeing 747 en route to Europe disappear. Instantly. Nothing remains except their rumpled piles of clothes, jewelry, fillings, surgical pins, and the like.

Vehicles, suddenly unmanned, careen out of control. People are terror-stricken as loved ones vanish before their eyes.

Some blame space aliens. Others claim a freak of nature. Still others say it was a high-tech military attack by a world conqueror.

But airline captain Rayford Steele's wife had warned him of this very event. If Irene Steele was right, both she and their young son have disappeared. What about their older daughter? Lake Rayford, Chloe had been skeptical.

In the midst of global chaos, Rayford must search for his family, for answers, for truth. As devastating as the disappearances have been, the darkest days may lie ahead.

Terror and chaos continues worldwide as the cataclysm unfolds. For those left behind, the apocalypse has just begun.

In this moving novel, Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye offer an account of what life might be like for those left behind when millions vanish.

I readily admit that I am currently short on time and, other than the three games I currently DM and the new game I've got lined up to start this fall, I won't be running anything new for quite some time. If I were going to run a Left Behind campaign, it would be pretty far down the road. Still, I enjoyed the first novel in the Left Behind series for its cinematic quality and believe it would port well to D&D. Anyone out there interested in playing in such a campaign? If so, which rules system would you be interested in using--3.x or d20 Modern?

Great to see an interested party! Re-reading my originating post, I see that I neglected to clarify that the PCs would most emphatically not be characters from the novel. I'd like to see people come up with post-rapture tribulation-times PCs, ie: characters who have been left behind after the rapture. Potential comers to the game would be playing a pack of non-believers, so there's certainly a huge spectrum of possibilities in terms of character generation that runs the gamut from newly born-again to criminal.

I haven't had a chance to read any of the novels, but I have only heard great things about them. I love the concept and would also enjoy having a go at it whenever you decided to start this. I think it could be a very interesting game. Plus, I've always wanted to play a d20 modern game that lasts longer than a week or two.

I would be interested in this. I can see myself playing a character similar to the Pastor in the book series. Knew it but did not 'Know' it.

I admit, I'm heartened to see interest in this kind of a game. Seeing just these three posts brings me to the conclusion that, were I to recruit for such a game at some point next year, it's likely that we would find enough interested and able-bodied parties to make a campaign work. When my plate clears, and that'll take some time, I will put up a recruitment thread.

That said, who is interested in d20 Modern and who is interested in a more traditional medieval-feeling 3.x rules system?

Hey CB
I an just becoming familiar with D20 Modern, I like what is has to offer. That being said I think it would be a better campaign setting, in my opinion, than standard D&D system.

P.S. I am definitly interested for next year assuming no huge changes, nut you shouldn't have any problems getting players then.

I'd prefer a D20 Modern game because I am familiar with the rules and have been wanting to play a D20 Modern game for ages now. And this would be a good campaign for that.

Doing a straight D&D 3.x game has it's benefits also. You will find more players with knowledge of the rules and they seem to have a better chance of surviving compared to D20 Modern games on these boards.
