Legacy Weapons

Hello went through 8 pages and I cant find a search button so sorry if this has been beaten to death.

I am wanting to construct my own legacy and I am a little confused about somthing.

As I understand it you get to select an "A" trait at 5th, then if you want to select a "B" trait you need to wait till 7th right? and if you wanted to get a "C" trait it would be 8th?

Now once you unlock the lesser traits at 11th do you still need to start with "A"? so if you wanted a "D" trait assuming you have used your slots up until you get to unlock the lesser legacy can you get a "D" trait at 11th or at 14th?

Depending on the answer here would go for greater powers also.

Cheers,

it goes like this
A= access this power at that level
B= access this power one level after selecting it
C= access this power two levels after selecting it

if you look at the charts for the 11th and 16/17th? it just goes; D,E,F and G,H,I respectivally. SO D and G are like A and so forth for their level.

example

5th lvl... A power
6th lvl...
7th lvl... B power
8th lvl...
8th lvl...
9th lvl... C power

You might also want to look at the pregenerated Legacy Items to find additional abilities, such as "Simple Bow's" Call to Hand power.

If your not the DM I suggest you the two of you work closely together to develop this item so he is shocked with these 'strange' upgrades that "seem" to have to drawbacks.

Cheers mate, that was the way I figured it went.

I am a player in this campaign but as a DM I fully agree and intend to run this with the DM close.

Thanks again.

I have a kind of related question for anyone with Weapons of Legacy.....

What do the Least, Lesser, and Greater Legacy feats and rituals do? The Book of Nine Swords gives a partial breakdown of how to use the 9 legacy weapons in it, but doesn't really describe the most important parts. It doesn't say if or why you need to complete particular rituals to gain any of the legacy weapon's abilities.....so the 9 legacy weapons there are utterly useless apparently for anyone who hasn't also wasted 30 bucks or so on the Weapons of Legacy book.

Search functionality on the site is limited to people with Community Supporter accounts. Meaning people who sign up for such an account and donate a bit of cash to help Morrus cover the monthly costs of the server. It's something like 10 or 30 dollars per year or per month, I forget, and once that time's up your account reverts to normal status IIRC (unless you renew the CS account with another donation).

The rituals give you the feats; the feats, in turn, unlock the abilities. That's all.

I don't know why they had to insert a "feat" as the middle-man between the rituals and the abilities unlocked. They could have just said "you complete this ritual, you get these goodies", but no, there's a useless middle step.

Another question though.....what abilities do the feats unlock exactly? The Bo9S is terribly unspecific in that regard, which is the main thing that makes it confusing why you'd even need more than just the Least ritual completed (only some of them mention their final ability needing the Greater ritual, the rest just say in their first ability that they need the Least ritual).

Weapons of Legacy is the same way, you have to read the entire book before it becomes clear. It would of been nice if they had come right out and stated how the feats work with abilities.

Anyway here is how works: Let's say we have a character between 5th and 11th level and that character finds a legacy weapon. The chactacter does the research, spends the gold, and preforms the ritual. The least legacy abilities are now unlocked, this means that the character can use all the abilities from level 5 to level 10 (along with all the penalities) when he/she is at the corresponding level. That's it.

That same character reaches 11th level and if he/she hasn't preformed the next ritual they don't get any more of the items abilities. So they need to spend more gold, more time researching, and preform a second ritual to get the lesser feat and unlock the 11th - 16th abilities. The same thing happens at 17th level if the third ritual isn't preformed. The rituals can be preformed early.

Does this help?

Yeah, thanks. That's kinda what I was guessing, but had no way to confirm because Bo9S says absolutely nothing about that aspect.
