Looks like there will be good 3P support for 5E whether WotC/Hasbro wants it or not! Good news IMO and good names to the products. Hopefully they stand up mechanically

If anyone gets these and can give more information that would be great, I don't purchase any adventure without knowing how big it is, ie pages, and an example of the maps contained in, hand drawn sketches of dungeons don't do it for me.

Just got them both. They're fairly short adventures (the notes say they might not have enough XP to give a level).

Production values are nice - colour art and maps. Maps are computer-generated.

The Fiddler's Lament is effectively 12 pages long.
The Murmuring Fountain is effectively 11 pages long.

This map is fairly typical.


I'll get around to some reviews, soon.

Good to hear, the size is what I expected for the price so that is good, if it was longer would be better obviously but for the price good.

I like the map, it is not amazing but much better than what I thought was going to be in it and looks like I can import it into roll20 easy enough and have it look nice.

Looking forward to your reviews, if you like it will probably purchase both.

Maybe I missed the news elsewhere, but how does OGL apply to 5e? Is there some special agreement between Wizards and Necromancer allowing for this?

Btw, I know the guys at Necromancer are lawyers and I believe in their integrity. I'm just trying to wrap my head around this.

The OGL has been used to make RPGs, clones and supplements for every edition, now it is being used to make 5E stuff. Not a huge surprise.

The scoop so far:

Both companies are likely riding that very thin line that exists between OGL and infringement; they really have access to 95% of the terms they need to do this thanks to OGL, and math expressions aren't copyrightable;

These are adventures, not new class guides, new feats, or anything that would require the components that are clearly outside OGL at the time;

Nobody has seen a C&D yet, and you can bet both companies have used their legal consultations to good effect to be sure they're staying on the legal side.


Having seen those preview monsters from Frog God's monster book kickstarter, it's a mishmash of 5e-appropriate stats and 3e stats (they got plenty of fan dismay at that finger of death spouting cannibal critter)

The writing/editing in one of the adventures (The Murmuring Fountain) has some really bad patches.

"Fleeing into the swampy woodlands wild, the locals now know him as Antrellus the Mad, a phantom figure creeping around the outskirts of town, gibbering and ranting about the robed priests and the many-legged beast which he saw feed that night to any disbelieving townsfolk or traveler patient enough to listen to his demented ravings."
