Doesn't it have class features for both rogues and fighters that do exactly that?

I think he's being literal, but in doing so, I feel KM is being disingenuous, because 5E is very keen, from basic to tell you very precisely how far you can jump, how far you can jump with a running start, how high you can jump, how high you can grab, and so on.

I do actually like that it's fixed now and not based on a roll, but the implication of KM's post SEEMS to be that 5E doesn't micro this stuff, but it pretty much does - it just doesn't take pole vaults specifically into account.
