The new Legends & Lore is up. "Keeping it Classy" talks about class options in the PHB.
I had been wondering about this too, although apparently the answer is no. Anyway, a generalist would be pretty pointless now without prohibited schools. You cannot be a generalist (non-specialist) wizard?
I read that bit of the article as referring to the types of patrons. When you're referring to your warlock character, "star-pact", "fey-pact", and "infernal-pact" are probably fully acceptable. One of Warlock's pacts is "Great Old One". Star pact in 4e is mostly Cthulhu-like being, so I guess this is cosmetic change. Still, I prefer the title "Star pact". I hope it's easy enough to refluf.
Ah, Silk, now there's a rogue with a noble background if ever I saw one. Trained in Acrobatics, Deception, Insight and Slight of hand.Extremely excited. Although I could have guessed the individual subclasses, the half-sentence depictions were actually... Inspiring. Whoever wrote/edited/refined this PH(B) did an amazing job.
My one sad thought: a diplomatic, fast-talking merchant rogue subclass. Who remembers Silk, from the Belgariad? To me, Silk is the quintessential rogue, thoigh I rarely see his character expressed mechanically...
But, hey, kudos to the fifth edition design team. I'm excited!
But I still think that Abjurer and Diviner would be a hard sell to most players. Diviner could have things like lots of advantage rolls and automatic 20's on dice rolls, and even then I still think they won't get picked by most players.
