Legends & Lairs for $5 - any recommended?

I like all 4 Path of series. They are good class books and are probably the second best set of class books next to Wizards

I did not like Mythic Races. The descriptions were fair, but mechanics are bad. There have been a lot of new races made since that book and now there is no reason to use it really.

Darkness and Dreed is pretty good, but not like Portals and Planes, Cityworks, Wildscape, Dungeonworks. Those are some really solid books.

And then their is Spells and Spellcraft which is one of the most creative books books in the line, but it is 3.0 so conversion to 3.6 is needed.

The Path of..., the Lore series, and Mythic Races are my favorites out of the series. There is some conversion required as they are all 3.0 books, if you use 3.5 that is. I didn't get as much use out of Portals and Planes and Monster Handbook as I would have liked, but they are both solid. I never picked up any other books in the series, so I can't comment on them.

they give good ideas and details that really no other d20 book does.

The Path books had a lot of stuff I would never use. But there's some stuff in there that is pretty neat. I am not too hip on the styles or the variant core classes, but many of the PrCs are good (though MANY mechanics need updated... I straight out decided not to use daughter of storms with one NPC and used stormcaster from stormwrack instead... 3.5 call lightning gutted the class abilities for that one), and if you dig the idea of legendary classes, those are way cool.

The organizations are neat, but I wouldn't use the mechanics for them.

The Lore Books are some of my favorite monster books (esp. necromantic lore), but I neglected to mention them because I got them long ago.

The school books suffer from 3.5 conversion as well, but I think School of Illusion really helps shore up the illusion school spells; as is, I think illusion does not get the attention or utility it deserves. The PrCs are neat in both school books, but again I wouldn't touch the base classes.

Adding to Crothian's response, both books are excelent for people new to DMing. They give some insight into cities/dungeons structures as well as some suggestions for different types of them.

Another thing that's nice is that each one has a randomish generator that's fairly well detailed.

Of these I only have Twisted and Draconic lore, but have found them both to be really good.
