Tylara sees that the water is pretty much all returned into the basin again. The elemental 'speaks' to her again, "I can check out the insides of the device for you and let you know what's going on. If you like, that is."

After a moment, the elemental reports back and lets Tylara know that the device works in this fashion: Plug turned to 12 o'clock or 6 o'clock -- LOCKED-plug cannot be removed. Plug turned to 9 o'clock -- the plug can be removed without the water draining from the basin. Plug turned to 3 o'clock -- plug can be removed, the water flows out of the basin, and the cave collapses.

Kerlan works to place the plug back into the hole. If successful he will turn it to 9:00 position and pull. After doing so he immediately looks to the ceiling and prepares to bolt if necessary.

The plug turns to the 9 o'clock position, and Kerlan is able to easily remove it. The water remains placid in the basin.
