Tagline: Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.

IMDB: link -> Låt den rätte komma in (2008)

Imagine my surprise a month ago or so when I noticed a swedish vampire movie in the IMDB top 250 list. I rented it today, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! Dark themes, yet a "feel good"-movie.

Thoughts?

I've seen it and I liked it a lot. Atmospheric, intelligent horror that doesn't rely on cheap shocks.

[sblock]I did think they would have a stronger ending without the swimming pool scene and 'lets-go-for-a-ride' train trip, but the current is still pretty good.

BTW, Eli is a castrated male in the book. It isn't very clear in the movie.

[sblock]Cheers Krug, this explains a few scenes.

I checked out IMDB and apperantly the director decided against including the backstory because it was too explicit (and would require killing a live pig). Not including this scene of course makes the remaining scenes hinting of Eli's story a bit confusing. I don't mind though, the movie works anyway.

How does this movie compare to Twilight? Haven't seen that one yet because of the mixed reviews.

Hah I don't think you even want to compare the two. I haven't seen Twilight but I think the two films are utterly different. ;)

Two completely different movies. I'd say the difference would be like LOTR compared to the first Dungeons and Dragons. LTROI is an oscar caliar film, great acting, great direction and a continous aura of creepiness that is very difficult to have in a movie these days.
