I don't want to crash a private party -- what's the opennesss to people considering pdf publishing (wannabes), if we sit quietly and behave?

:-)
Nell.

Everyone is invited, whether or not you're already in the business, looking to get in the business, or just casually wondering what we're always worrying about.

The chat will be 7PM EST in the #PDF chatroom of www.psionics.net.

If you're not able to attend the live chat but have a question that you would like some input on, email it to me and I'll be sure to ask it for you.

To make it easier for the rest of the North American market, we could delay the start time by an hour or two - but this will make it impossible for most non- North & South American attendees.

I will attempt to drop by. I think this holds a great amount of potential for smaller publishers.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Jason, its nice to see that there are other business students in the business. I was feeling lonely. This is a market that seems to scare business people away.

I'd love to, but my net access goes down on the 31st for the move. I'm gonna miss you guys by inches.

Keep me a copy of the transcript though for later, OK?

Actually, a very good idea. I most likely won't be able to attend the chats due to timing issues, but I am most certainly interested in the topics and in reading them afterwards. Perhaps a dedicated forum where follow-up questions can be asked can be managed as well.

Heck, I'll offer a forum, chat center, and host the transcrips. As long as I can make them and hand over the moderation temporarily to another person before I have to go offline...

Later,
John Bowden

The point of these is that Warden wants to have the logs to post on his website, so we can guarantee that the logs will be stored and posted.

Now, as for the chat, since this is about PRODUCT as the first chat, I think we should make sure to get Phil Reed in on it, since he is the paragon of the short PDF production company. Warden, can you tag Phil and see if and when he can join us?

Monday evening? I can do that. Can someone let me know when an exact time is decided? 8 pm central would be best for me.

Paragon? Damn, I need business cards made.

Okay, so the first PDF Publishers' Chat will begin at 8PM EST on Monday, November 1st in the #PDF chat room of Psionics.net. Those scheduled for attendance are myself, Hellhound, Phil Reed, Anna Dobritt, and more with the first topic called "Creating the Right Product".

As for hosting these chats, I'm not really looking for full credit to go on my site (which seems unneccesary since I'm using the EN World boards to promote this) and would actually encourage everyone to post links to this idea on their own sites and make the transcripts available. For the chat site, I would say that we keep it in one place, however, so that everyone knows where to go every month. So let's just say that these chats are Open Content with an Appendix proclaiming that I am the lord-master-creator of this concept so that worship may be performed in my name. All that I ask for in return is godhood and a Christmas card. And world peace.

Now, I will confess to something. Psionics.net and I don't actually get along, so I am worried about saving a transcript for these chats. If anyone else knows to do it without saving a blank file, it would be greatly appreciated.

This will be a great opportunity for each of us to share ideas and help to promote the industry as a whole, something that is rare in any field.

Both Phil and I are pretty open with each other about how we work - although more would always be better. And I've talked to you about my views on the industry last year, Warden.

As for transcripts, I use Trillian which keeps an active log of all communications - so I'll make sure to use it in this chat.
