Level progression

First Post
I'm trying to build an enemy for an evil level 35ish party. I was going to add levels of cleric to a Solar to make it tough enough for them. My question is, would the cleric spell casting abilities of the standard solar stack with the levels of cleric taken, or would the two classes count as different spell lists entirely. So say I add 15 levels of cleric would he effectively be an epic 35th level caster or have a 20 and a 15? Any and all help appreciated.

Welcome to the boards, scared guy. I ran into the same problem a while back when adding sorcerer levels to a dragon, and IIRC the levels are not supposed to stack. Not sure where I found that, though. One of the Sage's rulings, maybe. Despite that, I decided to run it the other way, and haven't regretted it. It just didn't make sense to me that a magical being should have to start from scratch in a field in which it is innately talented.

Besides, that poor solar is going to need all the breaks he can get going up against 35th level PCs. ;)

"To determine caster level, spells known, and spells per day for a monster with a spellcasting class, add its class level to any monster caster level it has." - Savage Species, p18.

So according to Savage Species, he'd cast as a 35th level Cleric.
