Libraries in your game

If you are talking a truely huge library I can't imagine them allowing books to be let out. Who ever spent the time to put all this stuff together doesn't want it walking out the door and down the street.

Most of the time you have a library aid...there is no card catalogue after all. So you don't research in a library by yourself. So this person is obviously there to watch you and keep you from stealing anything. Large libraries are in sections, "so while you are researching this topic you stay in this section, when you are done we will move on to the next section when I have put the book back on the shelf", kinda idea.

Those sneaky characters have a way of stealing things though, so if you really want to get after them, just have the books glamored to be blank outside of the library.

I use them and have three types, public, guild and private.

Public libraries are just that, open to the public and are mostly history, songs, and adventure logs. They are open to the public.

Guild libraries are run by the guilds in my world, they contain the day to day business dealings, contracts, maps, and spell books. Material is very well protected and only other guild members are allowed access.

Private libraries are in the hands of special groups/person and can contain anything. Access is very limited.

I like to place a value of accuracy on the material in each. 50% Public, 80-90% Guild, and 50 to 100% Private
