Well, there are to ways to confront this:

1) The venerated dragons are dracoliches long since.
There is some sort of prophecy regarding items of power (actually phalacteries) and how those must be taken to the dracoliches (idea: make the phalacteries magic weapons with which they must be killed)​

2) The venerated dragons have been lichisized (:confused: ) by one of the venerated dragons who was tempted by one of the Nightwalkers (Lieutenants of the north)
The traitor (Ephialtes has to form part of his name, meaning "nightmare", and "traitor" in greek) holds power over the others, get him and you get them.​

I like #2, and Ephialtes has promise...
