Make them prisoners of the rat realm or something truly twisted. An urban-type setting that is nothing but piles of bones, debris, and other teeming rats. They have diminished physical capabilities (being rats and all) but maintain their mental abilities.

As punishment for the looting, though, I would insist that their gear was gone. Might make them rethink wanting to keep the guys...

The secondary character,s 8th-10th level, are now the primary characters.

I'll DM for about another two months while one of my comrades gets his Mutants & Masterminds material together.

Have to scarp a lot of plans though.

As far as them becoming undead, and all that, while I appreicate the suggestions, one of my friends put it best, "You can't fix stupid." I strive to avoid giving second changes for sheer stupidity and greediness so those puppies are deader than doornails.
