Light vs Dark or vice versa

Ok maybe my search and read-fu is weak. But has anyone found any where how a darkness effect and a light effect work vs each other ?

In this instance I had a Young Black Dragon use its Darkness ability. We had a Wizard use his Light cantrip. So does the light totally cancel the darkness? and can the Dragon continue to resume it (i.e put it back in place as a minor action as it states) or would he need to reuse the power again?

Just would be interested to see how the 2 interact. Not sure how a recharge power on a monster should be canceled by a cantrip etc.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The zone of darkness doesn't have anything to do with light. Read the text:
The zone blocks line of sight for all creatures except the dragon. Any creature entirely within the area (except the dragon) is blinded.

So the wizard's light sheds light, but it hits a wall that has blocked line of sight.

and what if the wizard was standing in the darkness? the wizard may be blinded but he can cast light, and what does that to the darkness?

It makes a light... but the wizard and everyone else inside is blinded, so can't see it. And it can't light anything up because its line of sight out of the zone is blocked.

but you dont need line of sight to have line of effect so an wizard can always cast light on hisself.. and if he does that, does the light overcome the darkness and makes the characters not blinded?

No, it doesn't. Just like light can't enter or pass through a globe of Darkness, it can't exit it either. The light is shining, but it's entirely contained within itself. The inside of the Darkness effect is always completely without light.

Actually, the light passes out of the zone of effect. The zone blocks all line of sight, bu not line of effect. Everyone outside is able to see a little better. But within the zone, no. Through the zone, no. It might be helpful.

In short, the light has no effect whatsoever within the zone for as long as the zone persists, but acts outside of the zone as normal, regardless of where the light originates.

You dont need line of sight to hold an hand on youre chest and cast the light spell.. being blinded doesnt make you handicapped..

If someone can refer to an page where it says that darkness ignores all light sources, that no light source can ever surpass darkness..
