Our monk has an ungodly Listen skill plus 17 or so, it's ridiculous. Our DM has to have ambushers hide under a silence spell. Bad guys have to speak in anything other than Common to thwart our eavesdropping monk. He has to scout fairly far out from the party so our heavily armored melee fighters don't screw him up, which leaves the DM plenty of opportunities to screw him over.

My character has the Eyes of the Eagle and an overall spot +15 but the DM rarely gives me a chance to use it. I always roll crappy on spot checks anyway (unlike the monk's "let's see, that's another 35 on my listen check").
