<little question about> Psychic Characters

How often do you have psychic/psionic characters in your campaigns?

A little question. Our group started playing 3.0e when it came out, both GMs grabbed the psychics books as soon as they came out, but neither has had any Players that has had Psychic PCs. There is one NPC that is Psychic, but he’s not really aware of his abilities (its pretty comical).

I had one Player that asked to Play a Psychic but I said no, because the direction of the campaign, my lack of understanding the rules and such at the time. (He made a threat that if I brought in Psychic bad guys he would take levels in Psychic something. Still laugh about that.)

Is there anyone out there that has yet to run psychic characters, or allow them in campaigns they are running? If so- why?

I have the Psionic Handbook 3.0 and Expanded Psionic Handbook 3.5, plus Green Ronin's Psychic Handbook. None of that stuff was ever used due to lack of opportunity. However, friend is making a new campaign in which I may well play a Psion 3.5.

I've used them on and off over the years, basically whenever anyone wants to play one. Then I'll come up with some psionic villain to counter them. And yeah, I bought both 3.x psionics books, too! :heh:

In the last (3.0) campaign I ran one of the most memorable characters was a Psychic Warrior with a Darth Vader complex. Piratecat's Of Sound Mind adventure formed the centerpiece of the campaign.

In my current (3.5) Freeport campaign I didn't want to drown the players under too many character creation options, so I didn't offer the classes from the Expanded Psionics Handbook. However, there's a lot of good stuff in there. I plan to use psionic classes for outsiders- mind flayers, gifth, perhaps even some elementals. Hopefully that will help to emphasize the 'other'-ness of creatures from different planes.

I've nebver seen one in any game. It is not because the DM doesn't allow them, we have the books and the material; but no player has ever expressed the slightiest interest in one.

Zero, zip, none, nada, never...

I don't run campaigns that use them and I have not been in a campaign where any have appeared, even when it is an option.

In the D&D games I run, they normally are a valid option. They exist, but are typically less prevalent than magic using PC's (especially in the areas where the game takes place). However, they do exist in the campaign.

I typically get one PC per party which has some psychic ability, sometimes none, sometimes two. It's uncommon and many players never consider picking it up, but there is usually somebody who has a wild talent, or a few levels in a psychic class. Not that many dedicated pure psionic characters though, interestingly enough. They always mix it with something else (either by just taking Wild Talent and some psionic feats on a normal character, playing a Fist of Zuoken or Cerebromancer, or just splashing a level or two of Psychic Warrior in with their normal fighter-type build.)

I've so far had one campaign with psionics. It wasn't bad, but did seem to showcase psions/wilders can be very powerful momentarily but erode fast. I was pretty pleased with 3.5 psionics, and am not opposed to allowing it into the game with but a few changes. But my current setting just doesn't have psionics in it, so no psionic characters.
