A nice look back at the preivous starter sets and as a surprise bonus the 4e stats for a certain mr Bargle (lv 3 controler).

There are also pdfs of the sample dungeons in the 1977 and 1983 starter sets, as well as links to Gary's intro to the 1977 set and an Oots reference.

The 83 red box set was my first experience with D&D; I vaguely remember trying to DM my brother through the first level of the introductory adventure. I'm sure I was terrible and my brother barely played any RPG with me again, but I was hooked (I bought all of the D&D box sets and a few of the later 1e hardcovers, like OA, DSG, WSG, and the Dragonlance hardcover, as well as the FR grey box, before graduating to 2e). I also had a tattered, well-thumbed copy of the 81 box set, which I inherited when the son of my mother's friend was killed in an accident.
