Living Greyhawk question

Canada_K

First Post
I'm hosting my city' first Living Greyhawk events in a couple of weeks and none of us have done this before. So needless to say I mucking my way through this a little bit blind.

I was ordering scenarios when I finally clued in that the prefix to the scenario codes show what region they are associated with. My questions are:

(1) I already ordered scenarios with the "ADP" prefix. What the heck does that mean? All the other prefixes, it's pretty easy to tell what region they are, but this one has me stumped. Is it Ahlissa?

(2) The "COR" prefix also has me stumped.

(3) Should I stick only to scenarios for my region? How region specific are the scenarios?

(4) Am I forbidden from ordering scenarios from other regions? Is there a benefit/penalty?

(5) Do any of you recommend any particular scenarios as "must-see"?

Thanks in advance!

Let's see if I can help here:

1. The ADP prefix means it's an Adaptable Scenario. This scenario can be adapted to your play region by your regions's triad triad. This means it will only cost characters 1 Time Unit to play instead of two and then scenario will have a regional flavor to it.

2. The COR prefix means this a Core Scenerio. This scenario can not be adapted and costs your character 2 Time Units to play. Most of these scenrios take place in or around the City of Greyhawk.

3. Region specific scenarios are, well, very region specific. I noticed you're from Canada. Regional scenarios give you a good idea what you're region is like. What region are you in? Tusmit? Ket?

4. You can not order scenarios from other regions.

5. The Brendigund series of Core Scenarios have been a lot of fun although some players do not like some of the railroading aspects of it or the moral bankruptcy of Aldun Brendigund. An Evil Morning is a fun Adaptable Module. Regional scenarios are usually pretty good quality.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions just let me know.

Hello, K:

Never hosted an LG event before, but I used to discuss some logistics and planning with a triad member. I'll offer what information I can... I also don't know how much of this information will simply be repetition to you.

First off, you should be in touch with your local group of LG promoters and scenario suppliers - your regional Triad. They can provide the legitimate authority for the event, let you know of special requirements, etc.

For example, in the Bissel region, a new dictate by the Margrave created a compusory military service requirement for all able-bodied citizens. To reflect that, a certain percentage of scenarios run each year have to be military ones.

1) ADP indicates an "adaptable" adventure. These are adventures that are set in a certain type of area, and are intended to be customized by event planners for the LG location the players are in. If you are in Eastern Canada, for example, you would want to tailor the NPCs, Places, Background, and so forth, to the particulars of Ket (the E. Canada region) - to give it local flavor.

2) COR indicates a "core" scenario.

3) Dunno. That's a triad issue.

4) I don't think you are forbidden, as such, but some scenarios are means of rolling forward the region's story. Many of these require the location to be a certain one in Greyhawk. Bissel, to go back to that example, is showcasing the human ethnic tensions in the region, the aftermath of the Ketite invasion, troubles with the Gran March, and the impact of the new compulsory service requirement.

5) Since I dropped the ball on the scenario I was writing, and turned it over to the triad during my ramblings around the US, I can't recommend *mine* ;)

Good luck! LG can be a lot to deal with.

Must play scenarios:
River of Blood. That is one of the best LG scenarios available. If you can find a group of players with low level characters, play it as soon as possible. If you're in the Vancouver area of Canada, I'll judge it for you--email me if you're interested.

If you have a chance to visit northern california, I'd recommend playing some Pale regionals. Alliance Reborn, Pale Harvest, and Holy Word are also very good. Siege at Castle Arndulant is also very good if you have a strong party and know up front that you're going into a deadly scenario (4 characters out of 5 died in the first slot-0 and one of those died twice).

From what I hear if you're in western Canada (Duchy of Urnst) Last Dance at Heron House is a must play module (although it has the same reputation for deadliness as Siege at Castle Arndulant). It also requires characters of level 3+ IIRC so you'll have to get a few scenarios under your belt first.

As to #4. Yes, you are forbidden to order scenarios from other regions. If you travel to another region, you may play them (hence my comments about Pale scenarios) at double the TU cost of a normal regional scenario.

Thanks y'all. This helped a lot.

To "Elder Basilisk" and "TeaBee" I'm in Medicine Hat, Alberta. So I'm nearly 20 hours from Vancouver, but thanks for the offer.
