Yeah, that's by far the best bit of advertising that they did. It's memorable. It's viral. It's slickly done. The gnome is cute and the tiefling is sinister.

Well, it's sort of "duh" that it kinda backfired.

The tiefling comes across as a narcissistic murderous snob, whereas the gnome is cute lil guy who calls his mum and has a wombat who he gives raspberries. Snob kills the cute gnome and boots wombat, and they wonder why people are sympathising with the gnome and rejecting the tiefling? Hmm...

It doesn't feel to me like it backfired. I found it funny, and yet sympathize with the Gnome. Hey, maybe this video will even stop people from playing annoying Tieflings, because they know it makes them look bad compared to Gnomes. ;)

That's what I mean by "backfired". If it was meant to big-up 4E, and make tieflings look like cool PCs and gnomes not, then it seems to have had the opposite effect.

If nothing else, "I'm a monster...RAWR!" has earned its' rightful place in the gamer's lexicon. It's this edition's "I'm attacking the darkness".

I'm playing a gnome wizard in a 3.5e game converted to 4e, and we've been having great fun with the idea that my character is now technically a monster. And I'm now looking to acquire a pet of some kind, just so that I can occasionally do the "Who's my minion? Who's my minion? You are!" line.
