looking for a 1-shot 8th level character

This coming Saturday, my group's shelving the current campaign and doing a 1-shot dungeon crawl. Characters are allowed a total of 8 levels, which includes any monster ECLs. I personally favor fighter or cleric types, but I'm thinking of breaking a non-psionic thri-kreen monk (+3 ECL and 5 level of monks) on for size. Anyone have other suggestions?

I have tons of ideas, but I don't know if any of them are for you. I wrote up a 8th level 1/2 goblin fighter6/pitfighter2 (gladiatorish PrC from Path of the Sword) at this thread here:

I just picked up Fantasy Flights new book "Dungeoncraft", and it's written by Mike Mearls, so you know its good. There are many PrC's written directly for dungeon crawls, so this may be worth a look for you.

Be careful if you use monster levels ( Savage Species ) etc... We are playing a Gladiator Campaign where all the PC's have six levels, and the 6th level Minotaur was easily the "weakest" of everyone.

For a one-shot, I recommend you play a class/race that you normally wouldn't. For example, I couldn't stand to play a gnome illusionist in an extended campaign, but I might do it for a one-shot just to help me get my mind wrapped around the concept.

My other suggestion would be, if it's appropriate to your group, play something that'll let you cut loose. Half-ogre barbarian, baby, boo-yeah! "Gronk smash puny hobgoblin mans!"
