Looking for a big, good, Dwarf Stronghold adventure

mattcolville

Adventurer
For setting reasons, I need a moderately high level, big, Dwarven Stronghold adventure a la Moria or Axe of the Dwarvish Lords.

In fact, AotDL is perfect if not for the fact that the entire stronghold is populated by kobolds. Ideally, this would be an adventure for 10th-12th level characters and while I appreciate the idea of making Kobolds a threat for a high level party, such is not my goal.

Any suggestions?

Though the price tag is prohibitive for your purpose, Ptolus has a section of the Undercity known as Dwarvenhearth, the sealed-off remains of a former dwarven stronghold. It would require fleshing out, but it's a good place to start and is geared exactly for that character level. If you have a copy that you haven't completely read through yet, or a friend has a copy s/he's not using, have a looksee.

Otherwise, WotC's early 3.0 adventure The Forge of Fury is pretty good but would need to be scaled up considerably (it's for level 3, if I'm not mistaken).

In any event, both provide great inspiration upon which to expand.

Really, I would just go with "Axe of the Dwarven Lords" and populate the hold with dwarves. The other two decent dwarf holds I know of are: "Gates of Firestorm Peak" and "The Forge of Fury" neither of which have normal dwarf clans still in them. Simulating a dwarf hold isnt' too hard and plenty of material has already been published on dwarves in D&D's history to know the standard culture. Just check the PBH, if nothing else and make it fit your world.

You might check MERPS Moria too, but that's really, really big and likely not what you want.

All this advice is good. I should just repopulate Axe of the Dwarvish Lords, but I don't have time.

I own Ptolus, but Dwarventhing is not the size or scope of what I'm looking for.

The Gates of Firestorm Peak is a great suggestion, I just bought it and will check it out.

DL4 Dragons of Desolation has a ridiculously large dwarven city. It's based on geomorphs - there's a large scale map showing the blocks of the city, and about 15 templates. IIRC, most of the city is abandoned, but there are still dwarves in one section.

Give all the kobolds levels of fighter, rogue, sorcerer, warlock, marshal, etc. and then give them dragonspawn companions.
