Looking for a City for my new City-based Campaign

HiHo!

I usually GM Campaigns where the Players roam through the land to help people in need (or cause trouble ;)). But the my next Campaign should play in a City (including the near surroundings), but now I am looking for some resources.

The setting is Fantasy with some small changes (Arrowflight-RPG) but there are still Humans, Elves and Dwarves, so a typical Fantasy-City would work quite well. Does anyone know a (if possible free) source for a fantasy city? It should be fleshed out a bit (districts, important places/houses and people) but not so much that it would fill a book, I just want guidlines to gather some ideas.

Seven Cities from Atlas would probably be your best bet. Seven habitations, from tiny thorp to a large major capital city. Map, NPC's, some detailed building maps, basic overview, and some adventure hooks for each.

Bluffside and Freeport man. Two of the best d20 cities I know. (Well next to Hollowfaust but that's another time and another world. ;) )

Those are supposed to be good. There are also several city books out for the Scarred Lands setting, and I think a Waterdeep book due for FR sometime soon.

You can also track down the City of Greyhawk - on eBay most likely.

Kalamar has Geanavue/Loona - a city and it's suburb in two books.

All of these choices are very different in style, so it really comes down to what kind of city you want.

If you want most of your game to take place in the same city get a book dedicated to just one city, and not something like Seven Cities.

You should also get FFG's Cityworks, for a book on how to set up and run city games.

Thieves World, city of Sanctuary. It's low fantasy and gritty, but with some work and elbow grease it can easily become what you're looking for. It might be a little hard to find but its well worth tracking down.

Thanks, but I am looking for much smaller products. :p

I have all the supplements for Scarred Lands but my players allready know the places (a bit) and the books are to big for what I have plannet... I just want something like Hammlet in RTTOEE or the City in the Plague of Dreams.

I would especially like something fan-produced, if something like that can be found in the net

Go to judgesguild.com and download their old Modron maps and associated info.

Modron is an old seaside city. Should work for just about any starting camapign and allows for sea encounters as well as land. It is a free download because they will be updating it to 3e in the next year.

WOTC still has a lot of free downloads that may also fit your needs.

Mongoose has/had a few small city books out. You can also check out the web, Profantasy site has tons of cities for download, little detail but good maps (you can view and print them with the free viewer), there are also other sites out there.

I'll second the suggestion to look at the profantasy.com site. You will need to download the free CC2 viewer to be able to view and print the maps, but there are many that are quite good.

I have also seen some PDF products that might suit you. Archendurn is available here and costs $6.00. It has maps for every quadrant of the city on individual pages, plus a map of the surrounding area. Most of these maps don't have much in the way of notation, so you could easily stick customize. I thought the description that came with the product wasn't so great, but it sounds like you don't want that part anyway.
