Looking for a City for my new City-based Campaign

If you're willing to spend $1.20, RPGNow has Locus:Jalston available. It's kind of a sneak peak for a city product that still hasn't seen the light of day. It provides a map and brief descriptions of many shops. Here's the blurb:

"Bustling with activity, Jalston's walled commerce section overlooks the River Serpentine as it empties into the Great Mouth Bay. Cargo ships, barges and trade wagons from all points in the kingdom make this town a busy trade outpost in the County of Jals. Ruled by the Noble House of the Vensolor Family, exploited by the Merchant House of the Quontellins, Jalston runs like a clockwork. But even the Gem of Jals County has it's darker side...

The Locus - Jalston is presented as a player's guide to a large town. Included in this 8 page supplement are-
- A keyed player's map of the businesses, temples and more
- A player's overview of the town and its history
- Summaries of sections and locations for general knowledge
- A pricing guide for common goods and services. "

Small eh? Well didn't say you only wanted a town, just a city. Seems to me those two fit the bill. But I honestly don't know any fan produced (and thus cheap and obviously free), but hey if you got it whatever.

(Another reason I didn't suggest any SL cities, they are MINE!!! :p :) Well sort of. )

Um, the one i mentioned is free. Modron=judgeguild.com=free

I have two all-time faves:

Sanctuary from Thieve's World - I'm using a variant for my Arcanis game that is going through the Adventure Path modules from Dungeon.

More easily found on ebay and other stores (and for a while was available from SVGames in their bent and dent sale for a very low price) is the 1st ed AD&D Lankhmar, City of Adventure. I use it for the city to this day, throwing out the setting material. One of the best designs for an RPG city to date - there are neighborhood geomorphs that you add to the back alleys fo the city so the map the players use only shows the major roads in effect, and only the DM knows what is back there.
