Looking for a free, private wiki service

I'm doing a fairly serious overhaul of Kingmaker's kingdom building and mass combat rules. Once I've hammered out a few more details, I'll start compiling it into a resource for just my gaming group. I'm planning on using some copyrighted material from a few sources in the final form. To avoid copyright issues I'd like to find a free wiki service that allows me to make it visible to only me and the people I specify.

Does anybody know of anything that fits the bill?

There are several options- you can get web hosting really cheap (a few bucks a month) and most modern hosting services will make it very easy for you to install something like MediaWiki, which can be set to exclude everyone without a login that you provide.

There are also file-based mini-wikis like TiddlyWiki, where you essentially are just editing a single file that can then be distributed like any other file. Not sure how well it scales or does at including media, but for a small project it is very east to use.

Finally, as long as you can handle setting up some port forwarding or have a routable IP on your local internet connection, it's very easy to set up MediaWiki either running on your computer or running on a virtual machine. I had at one point a VMware machine image that runs on my machine that does nothing but supply MediaWiki- you can download a pre-built machine and it gets set up very easily in a browser.

I use pbwiki (now called pbworks). You can set access levels for the whole site, for sections (folders of pages) and individual pages. Although, looking at the main site, I'm not sure they support new individual users at the free level... so you may not be able to create a brand new site, though if you know anyone willing to share their administrator access, you could set up a new site that way.
