Can you remember maybe the picture? Maybe that might jog your memory. I mean if it was in full color, then it's a WotC product. If it wasn't, probably a d20 product.

Nope, as I said, I just remember reading somewhere. But then, I don't have any 3rd party fantasy d20 resources.

Not a big issue.

Thanks all, I'll check those monsters. If all else fails, I'll use either succubus or a vampire with sorcerer levels and the alter self spell.
 

I have a vague recollection of a FR(?) monster that looked innocent (child/animal?) until after it attacked, and looked like a big monster.. had weird name. Julajimus? Or a monster in the same book..

just guessing, AFB here..

An Aranea could look like an innocent human.
Doppleganger? Of course.
Phasm? Yep. Could look like literally anything.

Halflings look all innocent until their friends jump out, net you, and take you home for dinner... but that might just be certain halflings.

Werewolf, looks like a nice doggie until it rears up and claws you?
