Looking for a nastier version of a Carrion Crawler

Tome of Horrors had a Carrion Moth. Supposing that carrion crawlers are the larval form of something, this is what they came up with. Not as many tentacle attacks, but a couple of other new special abilities. If it doesn't already have it (book not with me), I recommend giving it Fly-By Attack.

I once made carrion crawlers the larval form of trolls. If you chop off a troll's body part a certain kind of maggot which likes to eat troll flesh will start eating it...the troll's flesh will begin to mutate it into a carrion crawler. Then when the carrion crawler gets to a certain size it'll become a troll. Troll warts are actually egg-cysts for the maggots.

Is it out there? Something bigger, meaner but the same type concept? Suggestions welcome.

First, I agree with the idea to advance it, then I agree with the template idea. I'd go fiendish and give it wings. Yes. A Fiendish Carrion Crawler Flyer should do the trick.

Forget the templates. Just replace its paralysis power with an Energy Drain power.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Half Illithid template on a carrion crawler. Paralyis and brain extraction is a good thing. The only time where I did not think the Half Illithid template was a little silly, makes on hell of a scary monster.
