Looking for a rule - upkeep

I know there was a rule in 3.0 about upkeep somewhere in the DMG. Basically, it allowed players to pick a "standard of living" for their characters and gave an amount to spend for upkeep of their characters (things like lodging, daily meals, etc). I could never find it without digging through the books for a while.

Now I can't find the rule for 3.5. Did it make the transition? If not, does anyone know where it is buried. IIRC, it was also used in the Living Greyhawk campaign at one time.

Upkeep is listed as a variant rule in the 3.5 DMG: bottom of page 130. Yes, something similar is used in LG but it is somewhat different.
