Looking for a sci-fi book

Years and years ago I read some book--actually, a series of about four books or so--and I'm trying for the life of me to remember what they are.

I thought they were written by Piers Anthony, but I can't find them anywhere on a list of stuff he wrote, so I'm guessing I must be wrong. They were about a young man who's name was Flick, I think. He had a pet flying snake that had some kind of psychic powers, although I don't remember what. The books I read had Darrell K. Sweet covers.

More space opera than science fiction. Arrgh! I can't remember more than that. Does this ring a bell with anyone at all?

I think that's "Flinx," and I think the author is Alan Dean Foster.

Never read them myself, but your description rang a bell in the depths of my memory.

Foster I think the series is now 10 books. Midworld, return to midworld, bloodhype, the the love of mother no, the end of the matter I think are some titles.
