Looking for an article I read.......

Someone please put me out of my misery! Several days/weeks ago, I read an article someone wrote somewhere about putting some randomness into combat situations. The part I was most interested in was spellcasters targeting a "square" on a game board with miniatures. This article introduced a way to target the spell similar to throwing a grenade-like weapon. It was meant to make it possible to "miss" and have your spell go off a little long or short, possibly harming one of your own party members.

I can't for the life of me remember when or where this was.

Can anyone help?
