Looking for an auto character sheet

It didn't look simple at first to me, but ended up liking it.
It allowed for the customized products we all have that effect different things with different bonuses.

With the reader/save option now it should be. Isn't it?
Personally I'm a mainframe guy myself, so I tend to get lost easily in the PC world.
One of my favorites so far just because of simplicity is the sheet on the following site. He even includes the source code for those that are knowledgable in that area. Don't know if one of you techno wiz's could make it any better, but I am a willing Test Subject  ;)

I've been using it for awhile now, and my only complaint was it didn't have like a 4th sheet to it to store something like a spell list notes. Just a fillable blank one would be fine.

Ideally, I want a PDF sheet that does minimal calculation allowing me to type in most of the information and save/print. Mad Irishman's would be perfect example except they require a full copy of Acrobat. Is there a PDF character sheet that will do that with Reader?

I thought that was one of the new abilities of Acrobat 7, the ability to create forms that work in Reader.

You can use forms with the Reader and it will autocalculate for you. I've created sheets and given them to friend who just have the Reader. Here's one right here: http://members.cox.net/reveal/eb.zip (Eberron Sheet)

The problem is you can't save it. Reader has never had the ability to save forms, just allow them to be filled in and printed out. The slow PDF sheet linked above allows you to export your info as an FDF file but it doesn't actually allow you to the PDF itself in the Reader.

You still need the full version of Acrobat to save the PDF file once you fill it in.

Unfortunately not. With Acrobat 7, Adobe introduced the ability for users of Reader to add notes and edits to a PDF, but they have yet to allow users of Reader to save or export form data without using their stupidly expensive Adobe Livecycle Reader Extension Server corporate product.

My sheet (mentioned in Crothian's review above) allows for saving from within Reader, thanks to the demo of Livecycle RES.

What JohnSemlak wants is something that can be customised, and there are serious limits to both sheets. The base classes in the PDF sheet are severely limited. No PrCs. And there's only so much you can do to customise it. HeroForge is my favorite sheet, bar none, but to create a custom class you need to be a first-rate code monkey, which I am not.

As far as customizing my sheet, it will handle pretty much anything you throw at it as long as it doesn't contradict core rules in calculated fields. SSA-X2 D&D Character Sheet doesn't make any assumptions in regards to class or race, and thus nothing is calculated or auto-entered based on those values. For nearly all dropdown fields, if what you want isn't listed there, you can simply type in what you want. I've tried to allow the sheet to be open to house and custom rules.

Not to be annoying, but TheYeti1775 is right; the Acrobat Reader 7 allows users to save .pdf form (finally!)
The only example I've seen is this year's 1040ez (grab it here)
Sorry, but I found this thread while Googling for this very thing.

Thanks...

Thanks for telling me I'm right, it feels good.

Pasus Nauran,
Love the sheet, one of my friends loves it too.
Being able to turn that Auto Calculate off is a big way to speed it up.
Makes me wish I had a Laptop all the more, to use for gaming.
**Tabs over to another site**
**Nope no cheap ones today**

I did sign up for your newsletter, and look forward to any additional improvements you make.
Wish List
- Complete Feat List with the calculations to automatically apply through out when you check the feat as having it. Have it automatically fill in the Bonus breakdown window, if possible, and fill it's self into the Feat Page. Maybe with a little description of it too. Don't worry about Preq's to start with.

My Super Wish List
The PDF Spell Book.
Have Check Boxes for spells to include in it.
Core ONLY (This unchecks all others and is PHB / DMG / MMI only)
Complete ________ and so on like that.

I know it's horriblly complicated and I don't expect it. But you will have the adoration of thousands of wizards if you succeed at it. haha

No really great job and I love it.
I stll have to use my basic one of Matt Schraeder (Nice and small too.)

at work, That's because I don't have the latest Adobe Reader there.

I look forward to seeing more from you Pasus.

P.S. More than willing to Beta test those sheets. *S*
Keep up the good work.

Hmmm... I've never seen that before. But I think it depends on the sheet and how it was created. For example, Mad Irishman's fillable D&D sheet doesn't give you that option.

In fact, most forms that I open with Reader 7 say "You cannot save this form, you can only print it" in a big white area at the top of the form. It must be an option used when you create the forms.

It is during it's creation that you decide weather or not someone can save it.

Is that only if you create the form with Acrobat 7? If so, Standard, Professional or both? I've never seen anyone do that.
